The House Music Festival, the School’s three day celebration of music, took place as the half term was drawing to its close.
Over the three days over 100 pupils from across the
Senior
School performed a variety of different musical pieces and genres. There were solo and group performances on Woodwind and Brass, percussion, strings, guitar, piano, singing and even organ. Some particular highlights included the senior piano performances (Josephine Miles’ rendition of Chopin’s Waltz in C minor was fantastic), the instrumental ensemble class and ‘
Battle of the Bands’.
Mr Hattrell, Director of Music at the School said “the standard of performance from the pupils at this year’s festival has been really outstanding. There are a number of very talented musicians indeed at the School and of whom we are very proud.’’
The three day festival drew to a close with the House Shout. The standard of singing from all three houses was very high as they performed two pieces of music. Each house sang I Vow to Thee my Country by Holst and then their own individual song.
. It was an incredibly fun event with much cheering and encouragement of others. After all the houses had performed, Stafford House was announced as the winner and awarded the ‘House Cup’ with a fine rendition of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Clare House won the trophy for overall music festival winners.
The School’s
Headmaster, Mr Lumb said “music is really at the heart of the School which has really been so evident over the three-day music festival with very high standards of performance. The House festival is one of the highlights of the School year and, once again, was a fantastic showcase for great depth of musical talent here.”
