Hockey 7s Tournament

Six schools came to participate in the annual Hockey 7s Tournament. In the first pool the 2nd VII faced some very strong competition with Casterton, QEGS and St Bees. Despite some very good passing and link up play, the 2nd VII found it difficult to score goals and subsequently they lost their three matches. The team however are to be congratulated on their strength of character as they never gave up against some stronger opposition. Player of the tournament was awarded to Jayne McColgan.

The 1st VII also faced some tough competition being drawn against Stonyhurst, Kings Tynemouth and Nelson Thomlinson. In their first match they played Kings Tynemouth and should have taken the lead through an early opportunity that narrowly went passed the post. Unfortunately Kings then took the lead and managed to hold on to take the victory. In their second match against Nelson Thomlinson the girls made sure they took their opportunities and won the tie by 2-0. Alex Foxworthy and Louise Sims scored the goals. Their last game was against Stonyhurst who had established themselves as the favourites for the tournament with strong wins over Nelson Thomlinson and Kings. The team played exceptionally well but a late goal from Stonyhurst meant that they went through to the semi-finals along with Kings Tynemouth. Player of the tournament was awarded to Jessica Tadbir for some fantastic display in goal.

The tournament was finally won by Stonyhurst after a very close match against QEGS in the final. Well done to all the girls involved.
